Stop motion can educate audiences, for instance lots of youtube channels and shows do this, this is because they’re easy for the audience (typically children) to follow. Some good examples of educational stop motion would be Creativity Science and Math Education

There is also an educational factor to a lot of other stop motion moving images, for instance generic ones such as chicken run could subtly teach audiences about chickens and other factors unintentionally.

Entertain

When it comes to the purpose of a stop motion film, the first thing you think is to entertain. This is generally the case with the vast majority of stop motions, Wallace And Gromit, Fantastic Mr Fox, And Lego Batman are some of the best examples of successfully entertaining stop motion animations.

Stop motion animations can entertain audiences of all ages, for instance Early Man’s audience would be children and young adults, and as the age rises, more adult themed and rude yet entertaining animations become prevalent. For instance Fritz The Cat.

Inform

Some stop motion animations are good for informing, for instance political animations, Jan Svankmajer is the best example of this, his animations were very political yet also subtle. These animations can inform people of any political movements and goals. Thus influencing people to side with that party.

These informative animations are typically very persuasive and intended to gain support or likeness.
Adverts are also another way that stop-motion can inform, some adverts, for instance Innocent Smoothies and Vimto, these adverts use stop-motion to advertise their products, Innocent do it in a way that informs us of all the different ingredients within a drink, and Vimto do it the same way, they inform us of the ingredients within the drink and the different drinks available.
